While many people think a "blank slate" is best for potential buyers to envision the space with their own personal touches, we've found the exact opposite to be true. Blank canvases are great for artists but leave potential home buyers with more questions than answers. The main question answered by home staging is...
How will my stuff fit in this space?
Delineate Space in Open-Concept
Show potential buyers how an open-concept home can be laid out, to be functional and still intimate. Open-concept homes that are empty can leave buyers scratching their head wondering how the layout will work for them.
Make Space Appear Larger
Surprisingly, empty spaces can feel smaller than they would with furniture. My home had this problem: front door opened directly into an apparently tiny living room, and I thought "How will everything I have fit in here? This looks too small!" Thank goodness my realtor (and View from the Top extraordinaire, Allison Werner) has an eye for these things and quickly explained how I could lay out the room. Turns out the space wasn't the issue - everything fit perfectly - but it was hard to envision without the furniture there to guide me.
Make Space Appear More Intimate
Large empty spaces can feel cavernous. With the addition of well-scaled furniture and accent pieces, homeowners can see how they could fill what might initially appear to be an intimidatingly large space.
Make Space Feel More Homey
This part is all about the touchy-feely. Set the table, put out flowers, have a fresh mat at the front door. You want potential buyers to feel like they are walking into a well-lived and well-loved HOME, not just a house.

The above home was a renovated, never-been-lived-in by the current owners. Can you tell? We sure couldn't! Staging made all the difference in this sale.+
